Open to Interpretation

I had a weird dream last night. I was watching a commercial with all these comedians pitching some product which I can't remember. Eugene Levy, Steve Martin and Richard Lewis were the only ones I distinctly remember. The commercial was like a Docker's commercial where everything is supposedly ad lib and the guys are all kind of riffing of each other and laughing like they're just hanging out.

Now for the weird stuff. They were all wearing Docker's-like apparel and Steve Martin had a 2 foot long mullet. Levy's hair seemed a little grayer than normal. Sometimes I was in the studio with them and sometimes I was on the other side of the TV screen watching them. Can anyone tell me what this means?

If it aids your analysis, I had just had a big meal of chicken cacciatore and 1/2 a caraffe of chianti at Dom's. I was still feeling a little bloated when I went to bed.

Simple: it means you need to move to Maine!
8-)

If you wish to hear my armchair psychologist theory....

1. Comedians you greatly admireand/or you think are funny - what makes them funny? Good writing!

2. The comedians represent the areas and levels of your life:
- childhood = Steve Martin in his prime when we grrew up with 'Well EXCUUUUSe ME!' and The Jerk ...note he has a mullet much as you did in those early years
- college years = the irreverent, Jewish and seemingly family-emotionally scarred Lewis who was in his prime after Martin, around college and the time that you opened your thinkling to lines of thought outside the Bible Belt. Note no notice of aging
- adulthood = Levy, am aquired taste that has found fame in later years in the Chris Guest films that he never came close to in his SCTV days, and the greaying would indicate YOU getting older.

3. The improv aspect I believe represents the free thinking and quick mind you have, accented by the new turn in your life (marriage) where none of the old rules apply, and there is no longer a script, but note its still FUN(ny)!

4. Interacting and making fun of each other: Your self-effacing nature and realizing you really have enjoyed ALL your life.

5. Pitching a product, but you do not know what= I gotta believe that the collective you (the 3 comedians comprising your life) are trying tell you that something is missing in your life (trying to sell you something you need)

6. On both sides of the screen - when? One aspect would indicate when you were in-studio during a particular comedian, you are most identifying with that period in your life, and remembering or foreshadowing while watching the other comedians fom the other side of the TV.

If its arbitrary flipping in and out of the TV sides, it could indicate that you want to be them (be yourself), but not sure how.

To me, the dream would clearly indicate change over your life, and either smashing you on the head that NOW you are in a safe place inm your life (with laurie), and this is the time to do something you have WANTED to do, but not allowed yourself to do for whatever reason - aka. your life is good, and now its no longer time to play by the rules (of comedy) and it will still be okay!

Another more simple possibility is this:
Change is okay and things will work out. Whatever it may be, it will be okay.....perhaps simply commenting on being recently married, aasd all these comedians have aged and fared well.

Which brings me to 7......

7. The Dockers apparel. It largely will mean whatever it represents to YOU!?

If you are like me (and there is a good chance of this in our thinking), I would imagine that it would evoke casual wear that was
heaped upon us throughout our lives by our adoring Grandmother (and Mom in your case) who care the most sbout our happiness, presentation, and overall warmth.

Moreover, it represents LIESURE! Doing what we LIKE to do, less work (typically not work apparel in theory), and being comfortable while enjoying life.

So, while I could extrapolate a final conclusion, I am reluctant to further speculate before hearing your (and possibly) Laurie's ideas, and naturally your perspective on this interpreation.

But suffice to conclude this limited version:
You have enjoyed your life, but spent much of it working very hard. You should scale back the intensity and enjoy your new life with your wife, and it will still be okay, regardless that some people may not like improv - the comdeians will always have fans!
;-)

Much love and Happy Thanksgiving

PS. If Dockers represent Maine, then I go back to it meaning move to Maine
